911 Automatic Location and Number Identification Service Down

911 callers should be aware that their location and phone number details are not currently available to dispatchers across Alberta as the automated service is down.

Telus is working to restore Automatic Number Information (ANI) and Automatic Location Identification (ALI) services, which tell emergency dispatchers the phone number and location of callers. Callers can still reach 911 but the details of their location are not being provided by the dispatch database.

As of 2 pm on July 26 ANI and ALI services for incoming voice calls were not being provided for 911 centres across Alberta. Telus is investigating the issue further.

Callers are advised that consequently dispatchers may need to take additional time to verify their details. As well, callers should ensure that they have an awareness of their immediate or most recent surroundings, i.e. by keeping their address on hand, or making note of relevant landmarks, signage, and road numbers.
