Caregiver Support Group

Caregiver support group meetings are starting this January! Meet your caregiving peers and discuss your caregiving journey in a confidential environment.  

If you are a caregiver for a child, parent, spouse, friend, or have recently become a caregiver, this is a valuable opportunity to meet with others that are experiencing the same challenges and stresses as you. Sessions are free and on a drop-in basis. This group meets once a month in a confidential environment.

COMPASS for the Caregiver Sessions Starting Soon

Yellowhead County Family and Community Support Services will be hosting COMPASS for the Caregiver, a course specifically created for caregivers of parents, spouses, an elderly friend, family member, or children.

According to Caregivers Alberta: "Caregiving can be a stressful, isolating, and overwhelming experience. It can have a negative impact on the caregiver’s physical and mental health. COMPASS helps caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving."

During the sessions, the facilitator will be going through a Compass for Caregiver book that is provided by the Alberta Caregivers Association. This multi-stage course will help caregivers with learning resilience and give them strategies to cope with the stress of caregiving during their journey. Caregivers will have a chance to come together to learn something new and through their experiences help each other as they go through the Compass for the Caregiver sessions together. Everyone will sign a Confidentiality Agreement so that whatever is shared stays in those sessions.

The Compass for Caregiver Sessions start on Wednesday, February 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Sessions will run for 8 weeks to March 28. The final get together will be held at the Yellowhead County Wildwood Office on April 11.
