COMPASS for the Caregiver Sessions Starting Soon

COMPASS for the Caregiver Sessions Starting Soon

Yellowhead County Family and Community Support Services will be hosting COMPASS for the Caregiver, a course specifically created for caregivers of parents, spouses, an elderly friend, family member, or children.

According to Caregivers Alberta: "Caregiving can be a stressful, isolating, and overwhelming experience. It can have a negative impact on the caregiver’s physical and mental health. COMPASS helps caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving."

During the sessions, the facilitator will be going through a Compass for Caregiver book that is provided by the Alberta Caregivers Association. This multi-stage course will help caregivers with learning resilience and give them strategies to cope with the stress of caregiving during their journey. A complete list of the module topics is available here.

Caregivers will have a chance to come together to learn something new and through their experiences help each other as they go through the Compass for the Caregiver sessions together. Everyone will sign a Confidentiality Agreement so that whatever is shared stays in those sessions.

The Compass for Caregiver Sessions start on Wednesday, February 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Sessions will run for 8 weeks to March 28. The final get together will be held at the Yellowhead County Wildwood Office on April 11.

If you would like to attend, please call the Yellowhead County Wildwood Office at 780-325-3782 or 1-800-814-3935 to register. Please register one week prior to the start date. There is a cost of $20.00 for the Compass for Caregiver book. Light refreshments will be available.
