Gregg Lake Subdivision Water Well Notification

Alberta Health Services: Gregg Lake subdivision residents should not use the well for drinking or other consumption purposes such as dishwashing, food preparation, hygiene and other domestic usage where water must be potable.

A recent report from Alberta Health Services stipulates that the Gregg Lake Subdivision Water Well is not suitable for any consumption purposes:
Gregg Lake subdivision residents should not use the well for drinking or other consumption purposes such as dishwashing, food preparation, hygiene and other domestic usage where water must be potable.

Please note that the well is considered GWUDI (Ground water under the influence of surface water). GWUDI wells are prone to contamination and may contain viruses, bacteria and protozoa that can cause illness. A full hydrogeological investigation would be required to determine whether the water from this well can be considered high quality groundwater (HQG). This water cannot be considered potable unless appropriately filtered and disinfected, or boiled.

Various point-of-use water treatment devices are available. Examples include chemicals (iodine or chlorine tablets), filtration (microfilters, ultrapurifiers or adsorption devices), or ultraviolet light devices. It is recommended that residents investigate obtaining certified devices for bacterial, viral and protozoan removal. Residents may contact the Public Health office for further information.

Thank you so much for your attention and cooperation. You may direct any questions or concerns to the Public Health Inspector – Ravinder Thind, Executive Officer, Environmental Public Health at 780-817-4117.
