Rural Crime Prevention Info Session

Join presenters Cor De Wit from Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association and Edson RCMP Staff Sergeant Peter King for a 2-hour information session and presentation on April 11, 2019, in Peers to find out about rural crime prevention solutions that will help you protect the things that matter most.

Do you live in a secluded, rural area? You may not be immune to potential break-ins, property damage and theft, but you can take steps to help reduce the chances of being a victim of rural crime.

If you live on an acreage, farm, or any out-of-the-way rural area, there are steps you can take to protect your home, possessions, and property. Join presenters Cor De Wit from Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association and Edson RCMP Staff Sergeant Peter King for a 2-hour information session and presentation on crime reduction tips and safety strategies for your property.

At the session, you’ll learn tips based on Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) concepts and other measures to help prevent theft of your property. The CPTED concept uses the idea of good property maintenance and techniques to act as a deterrent to rural crime. It also increases the perceived likelihood of detection and apprehension of potential thieves coming on to your property. These safeguards and other practical solutions will help you assess potential security risks and take action to prevent theft and other crime on your property.

In addition to physical deterrents that will help keep you and property safe from criminal actions, you’ll also learn concepts to reduce potential criminal activity when posting on social media that could assist a criminal in targeting your property.

The session is being presented by Yellowhead County in partnership with the Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association and the RCMP and takes place on April 11, 2019, at 7:00 PM at the Peers Multi-Plex. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions about how to best safeguard your property.
