Brule Ruff-Out RodeoThis one day event kicks off the rodeo season in the County. It will be their 41th anniversary in 2008 so there is a lot of organizing experience going into this rodeo. Events include Packhorse Race, Wild Cow Milking, Pig Scramble and the Saturday night dance. Look out for the “surprise race”. Medicine Lodge RodeoThe family centered Medicine Lodge Rodeo attracts spectators from all over the world and is always held on the May Mothers Day weekend. The rodeo grounds are half way between the towns of Edson and Hinton on Anderson Road. There are favourite rough stock events, timed events, all girls' rodeo and events for young cowpokes with the miniature horse race and stick horse race. There is a bonfire dance on Saturday evening and on Sunday, Mother's Day, a pancake breakfast followed by a Cowboy Church Service. There is free overnight camping for people with an admission pass. Chip Lake Music FestivalThe Chip Lake Music Festival is hosted at Chip Lake Park and features a natural amphitheatre. It starts Friday at 6 p.m. with an open stage on Sunday afternoon. Free camping at music site. Weekend pass is $35, Daily Per Person is $25, Family Weekend Pass $75 and all include Saturday supper. For more information call Elmer at 780-325-2119 Wildwood Bronc Bustin’Wildwood is the home of national professional Saddle Bronc Champion Rod Hay so it is only fitting that the community host a Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) sanctioned event. Held at the Wildwood Agricultural Grounds this two day event attracts saddle bronc riders from across North America. The cowboys are competing for a substantial purse. Friday is the qualifier events and Saturday features the finals. The Saturday night dance features a top country talent. Evansburg Pembina Valley Daze CelebrationHeld on the August long weekend the event features a weekend long ball tournament, Car Rally, parade, pancake breakfast, sidewalk sale, Farmers Market and a Steak Supper. There is usually a street dance and some top entertainment. Fire works end the show. Peers Gold Dust DazeThis annual August event celebrates the old community and relives the thrill of the gold discovery. Kicked off with a spectacular parade, the weekend continues with horseshoe tournaments, a duck race, gold panning competition, raft races, beer gardens and a cabaret. Wildwood Agricultural FairHeld the third Friday in August the event features exhibits, livestock and horse shows, kids games, Steak BBQ, and a big parade. Sure to be tons of fun for the whole family.Rangeton Folk FestivalRangeton Park is nestled along the Pembina River just off the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22) in between Highways 16 abnd 43. The Folk Festival is a Society fundraiser for the park. Cost is $35 at gate for the weekend. Adult pass includes camping. Day rate available. Hundreds of performers take the stage throughout the weekend. For line up call Joanne Johnston 780-786-4525.Robb ATV Poker RallyTraditionally about 500 riders participate in the rally, scehduled to take place in May of 2008. Pre-registration is at the Robb Curling Rink on Friday night from 6 to 10 p.m. The Rally starts at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, and all hands must be in by 8 p.m. on Saturday night. There is a Toonie breakfast on Saturday morning. Cost is $10 for rally only and hand. $5 gets an extra poker hand. It's $5 for a passenger playing a hand. Contact Allan Willows at 780-794-3824 for more information.Pembina River Nights Country Roots and Blues FestivalThis is the third year for the Pembina River Nights festival held at Rangeton Park nestled along the Pembina River just off the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22) in between Highways 16 and 43. Featured performers include: Fred Eaglesmith, Rae Spoon, John Wort Hannam, Ron Rault Trio, COIMK and Jeff Stuart. Check out asmallshieldmusic.ca for more information.Lone Wolf Hot Rod River RunCelebrating its 31th Anniversary in 2008. This event is geared towards car lovers who have (or want to check out) street rods that are at least 50 years old. Family function with ball game, river race and blues bands. On Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. there is a Free Show and Shine on Evansburg's main street with businesses supplying special deals for spectators. |
